Sabathia close to deal with New York

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher CC Sabathia became a free agent this offseason and the hype around Sabathia has been noncomparable.

The New York Yankees were one of the first teams this offseason to jump on the back of Sabathia and all their work to get him is coming closer and closer to paying off.

The Yankees have reportedly offered Sabathia a seven year deal worth $161 million which would be the richest contract ever signed by a pitcher. If it is $161 million, the annual average of Sabathia's contract would be $23 million.

Yankees General Manager(GM) Brian Cashman has shown that he is dead set on signing Sabathia and has been putting forth his best effort to do so.

"We all know what kind of ballplayer he is," Cashman said on Monday. "He's a tremendous family man and he's got a wife and three kids. He's got a life choice to make that will direct where they'll reside."

Cashman, Joe Girardi(Yankees Manager) and special advisor Reggie Jackson met with Sabathia and agent Greg Genske for nearly two hours at the Wynn hotel on Sunday.

In that meeting, Jackson took the lead in their discussion.

Genske then invited Cashman back on Monday and had Cashman answer some follow-up questions in their meeting that lasted less than an hour.

"I have no doubt that he can play in New York," Cashman said on Monday.

Sabathia is 117-73 in eight seasons in the MLB(Major League Baseball) and will provide something for the Yankees that they haven't had since they had Ron Guidry, another left hander.

Sabathia was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on July 7 and went 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 17 starts.
